I feel like I post the same pictures after each visit home. I love seeing them so I hope you do, too!

Water

 On Thursday I rode with a friend and took these water pictures.

On Saturday I rode on the back of the tandem on got these water pictures.

If you look carefully you can see the water on the lower left side.

That shiny bit on the bottom is water. Really!

On Friday I rode to campus by myself.

How could I resist?

Mysterious Fountain

It looks like this fountain in Memorial Park has been here for a while even though I can't remember noticing it before. It may have been around a while since it is dedicated to Allan John Carter, who passed away in 1949. I have not learned anything else yet.

There is also this fountain. It is the same color I don't think it is the same era.

Neither fountain is functional.

Watering

 We have two citrus trees and each has a bubbler, similar to a sprinkler. There are no working sprinklers for other parts of the yard. I water by hand sometimes, but mostly the plants wait for the rain. Most places have sprinklers on a timer, including roadside plantings. Only a few of these seem to have sensors to prevent them from going off during the rain and immediately afterward.

The most common types are plastic, pop up when they go off and retract when they stop.

Recently I noticed some old metal sprinklers. I wonder how old they are.

Edited to add more. As soon as I posted this I started seeing more old sprinklers.

Last time I was in Ohio I saw some home with automatic sprinklers. Next they'll be selling ice to the Alaskans.

Good Thing of the Day

 

We went to the ocean!

I didn't go in but I did touch the water.

We visited some little libraries with great views!

More water and more great views on an afternoon bike ride.

It wasn't a white Christmas but it was a good day.

Looking Down

I struggle with a sense of time so I don't know if these markings showed up a year ago or five years ago.

I wondered about them for a while but then ignored them until recently.

On my running route I noticed something embedded in the asphalt.

Without the arrows I might not have noticed that every place
with an asphalt marker also had a water company cover or something similar.

I went back to Claremont and looked around.

Sure enough each one had a corresponding hydrant or cover.

Just to add to the mystery I found this today
- a marking on the curb that seems to correspond to the painted marking.

New and Improved

When I was at LAX in May I could not believe they did not have water bottle fillers.

I was happy to see ONT had added some.

Where I swim the count is about 360,000 so
I was amazed to see that this was at only 178.

I walked to the end of the gates and found
one that had an even lower number! Wow!

Last mountain vacation post

I am not so keen on cycling on gravel, sand, or other challenging surfaces. Lucky for me there is a beautiful paved trail along five lakes.

I tried to ride all the way to the top without stopping and then took my time going down. A. is always taking pictures of his bike in different places, which strikes me as odd since his bike always looks the same. Despite that I took his lead and took some pictures of my bike, along with a few others.

 When the guys were finished on the mountain 

we met up with friends who had extra paddleboards.

It doesn't get much better than this!
