Delayed Celebration

Our mini figures celebrated our anniversary by getting helmets, bicycles, and a trailer.

The human celebration was saved for a day when the air was cooler and clearer. We decided to take a day trip to Riverside.

We visited

The Cheech

which is a Chicano Art and Culture museum in the old library.

We also visited the new library,

including the Friends of the Library bookstore.

Sticking with the book theme, we were happy to support the local independent bookstore

I am sorry you can't read the little poems, which were entertaining.

I was so glad our friend recommended Tio's Tacos for lunch because unique is hardly a way to describe it. Here is what Atlas Obscura says.
Martin Sanchez, the owner and artist, has been expanding and maintaining the property for a decade. The courtyard features old appliances re-purposed as decorations, bicycles cemented straight into the ground, and fountains constructed from scrap metal and glass. The perimeters are adorned with spectacular statues fabricated from chicken wire and stuffed with bottle caps, children’s dolls, utensils, and just about everything else you can think of.

We also learned that there is a school for the deaf in town and the city was hosting the 25th Deaf Festival.

It was like other festivals with the emergency response people there and people from different organizations. The difference was that everyone was signing.

We saw a mural with sign language.

And plenty of books

We did not come across a good ice cream place so we stopped closer to home.

Here's to many more anniversary celebrations.🥰

Benefits Fair

I knew I was in the right place when I saw all the carts.

Outside the ballroom were balloons designed to look like * (answer below)

Inside everyone
received a bag to collect goodies.

The truth is I am not planning to change the benefits we get from D.'s employer, but maybe I will learn something new. Plus, I like free goodies including pens, fruit,

flowers,

and gorp.

Maybe one day the benefits will match the academic year instead of the calendar year, which happens at other institutions.

Local Art

As a child I visited our local art museum, which had a juried art show with pieces by local artists. There were five categories and there were modest prizes, too. I have fond memories of this show and it brought out people who might not otherwise go to the museum.

The art museum here had a similar event, although anyone was allowed to exhibit art as long as it was deemed family-friendly, it could hang from one nail on the wall, and it was no more than 30" in any direction.

I dropped off a piece of A.'s art,
chosen because it was already in a frame.

I liked getting a sneak preview.

The variety was fantastic.
"Rubbing of Manhole Cover, Pomona College", 2017

The turnout was fantastic, too.

I hope it becomes an annual event.

Go Team

Last April we made plans to go to a baseball game to see the Dodgers host the Guardians.

Maybe you can see the scoreboard showing that it was 103°F in the first inning.

I had frozen lemonade, which is the same thing that helped me deal with the heat at the Atlanta '96 Olympics.

I hadn't been to the stadium in a long time and enjoyed seeing everything.

decorations and events for Hispanic Heritage month

I loved that the museum had the old wooden seats and this turnstile, which brought back memories of Municipal Stadium.

"Cleveland Dog - sausage topped with french fries, coleslaw, and barbecue sauce"
Not anything I have ever heard of.

The highlight was greeting all the people with Guardians jerseys and hats, especially the person who went to my high school!

More Plasma

Pomona Red Cross Blood,
Platelet and Plasma Donation Center.
Betty Bazar Blood Services Center

Two hours of donating

while watching several episodes of Season One. It is much easier to deal with the tension of the race because it is all about the 2022 event and I know what happens.

When I leave the Red Cross building I either reward or console myself

by visiting the farm store.

They had fantastic corn, tomatoes, and three colors of watermelon.

I chose orange, which I had never had before.

August Leftovers

Work, work, work!

looking for fish and turtles

I am looking for a few more of these.
Do you have any?

We cycled to the grocery store.
We sat on the bench outside and
waved to everyone going in and out.

at the library

This is our favorite fountain to visit.
C loves to play in the water.
