Bus Stops

I saw them installing new bus stops.

 

It looks good and has a functional bench.

This is the stop directly across the street.

At the main transit area in town there are six

stone stops with solid roofs.

This stop is across the street from the stone shelters.

This one is east of the stone shelters

and this is across the street.

A Full Day in February

It started with a morning walk and catching the moon in Skyspace.

The weather was great so I squeezed in a load of laundry (in the background).

I went to the Sycamore Talent Show and got to hear the act I had been looking forward to. This group of students sang all the states and their capitals (same song as performed here).

After bringing in the laundry we drove with D's parents to a church in South Pasadena

where they stayed for a concert and we went exploring.

First stop was the public library.

It warmed my heart to see a display of a child's collection,
which is something. my library did when I was a child.

The library has both a mural and statue by Leo Politi.
For better or for worse, the Friends of the Library bookstore was closed.

From there we explored the neighborhood, 

admiring many homes, 

but being surprised by the lack of drought-tolerant landscaping.

The historic soda fountain was closed so made do with a French bakery.

Oops - our regular minifigs were at home on their new tandem.

We finished the day with dinner at a deli. The rye bread was the best I had had in SoCal.

I do love my daily life, but it is good get out and about, too.

Invisible Box

I have mentioned the book and podcast, 99% Invisible It introduced me to the knox box, also known as rapid entry system key access. It is a way to leave keys in a safe place in case of an emergency. I hadn't heard of it or ever noticed one. The boxes were invisible to me. Once I learned about them, I found them all over. Sorry they don't make for the best photos.

Another Work Day

 Campuses were quiet because of spring break.

One of my favorite things

The newspaper had an article about how people deal with the reality of a company that stops making their favorite product, like the diet soda Tab or the old boxy Volvo station wagons. My version is a watch.

I had this style in two colors for a long time. The band would break and replacements weren't sold so I would send it in to be fixed for about $10-$20. I always had a backup watch to wear while one was being fixed. 

I couldn't find the backup before sending one away so I bought a new one.

The basics were the same, but a few features were different. Change - aagh!

I received a message from Timex letting me know that bands are no longer made for my favorite watch and they offered an alternative. I accepted their offer.

I am not thrilled with the color, but the features are the
same as my old watch and I can replace the band myself. 

Three guesses what happened next!

After almost two years, I found my old watch.

I'll wear my old one until a breaks and then wear the white one. The black one I'll give to D, because it is identical to the one he has now, which needs replacing soon.

I think every member of the football team rides an electric scooter.

We went to a huge estate sale and it was fun to see everything,
but I really wanted the nice drawers and cabinets.

I wonder how long this little library has been on the Pitzer campus.
