Graduation

 

We flew to PA

and arrived in time to have A's deviled eggs at a potluck with classmates and their families.

It was our first time on campus since A's first year

We were happy to see where he lived his sophomore and senior year.

It was different for D. to be on this side of graduation.

After the ceremony we socialized before doing some packing. 

We took a scenic walk through campus

to the Haverford train station
(not to be confused with the light rail station).

It was great to walk through Philadelphia to get to the restaurant. We enjoyed tapas with A's cycling friends and dinner with A's elementary school friends.

Then it was back to Haverford, this time on light rail. Packing and cleaning was almost done

and then is was time to prepare for the start of the coast-to-coast and border-to-border cycling trip.

 Campuses were quiet because of spring break.

I think every member of the football team rides an electric scooter.

We went to a huge estate sale and it was fun to see everything,
but I really wanted the nice drawers and cabinets.

I wonder how long this little library has been on the Pitzer campus.

Not only did I enjoy this concert, 

I enjoyed it in Garrison Theater,
a very nice venue that is close to home.

It is nice to live in a college town.

Benefits Fair

I knew I was in the right place when I saw all the carts.

Inside everyone 

received a bag to collect goodies.

The truth is I am not planning to change the benefits we get from D.'s employer, but maybe I will learn something new. Plus, I like free goodies including pens, fruit,

flowers,

and gorp.

Maybe one day the benefits will match the academic year instead of the calendar year, which happens at other institutions.

Just Another Day

The day started with a bike ride. Sometimes I just visit little libraries in different neighborhoods.

I tidied up this free pile so everyone could see the book spines.
I found lots of good books for my little library.

I don't usually stop at garage sales but this house was up a long driveway so I was happy to take a look. Plus, I could see the toy car and thought there might be other good toys, too. I overheard that they are downsizing to a 2300-square-foot house.

I stopped at two different stores to get a hair trimmer, dishwasher tabs, and fresh fruit.

In the afternoon we went to a new exhibit at the local ceramic art museum. We were lucky to meet the curator and learn a bit more.

I didn't know a lot about architectural pottery.

My favorite part was the miniature room with miniature replicas of pieces in the exhibit.

We went back to an older exhibit. I had seen this piece in January at the opening, but it was still good to have the do-not-touch sign because I still wanted to touch it! I want to know if it is really porcelain or if my eyes are playing a trick on me.

In the late afternoon we went to campus

but got there a bit early to see the first-year students walk through the gate.

A bit later we were right on time

to see the students line up,

to see the parents ready to capture the moment,

and to see a physics student join the fun as Cecil.

I teared up only a little bit!

We finished the day with dinner out and then dessert with the extended family.
