Burning Bridges

We sometimes run on the Pacific Electric Trail and cross
the San Antonio Creek Channel on an old wooden bridge.

 

When we got to this point on Tuesday there was
caution tape all over so we turned around. Today
the signs were knocked down and
the tape was gone so we kept going.

Beyond a chainlink fence we could see that the
bridge had been burned from underneath.

I liked it not only because it was a convenient bridge,
but it made a nice trip-trap sound when crossing
and it had frost on it a few times a year.

More Rocks

 Once we started collecting rocks it was hard to stop. 

Sometimes we set them up away from home,

wherever we happen to be standing and watching construction.

I finally set up a temporary rock library,

inspired by this library in San Francisco.

I was also inspired to take action after a friend
alerted me to a stick library about a block a way.

Now I need to find a place for my newest treasures.

Pi Day

Pi Day brings out the comic strip jokes, like in Frazz and Foxtrot. I was surprised how many friends wrote to wish me happy Pi Day. 

One person asked if we carved pumpkins, but I had already used them up. Instead I started looking for pie recipes that used ingredients we had at home and chose this one.

A. agreed to make it,

and did a better job than I would have!

Race Day

 Another 5 a.m. wake-up, another race day. Here are some random pictures.

Tree

 I had nothing to blog about so I took a couple pictures and thought I would write about a tree.

I took a picture of the leaves.

I took a picture of the fruit at different stages.

I took a picture of a fresh fruit opened
up so you could see the bumpy pit.

I went to the Arbor Day tree identification site and went through the process a few times. I wrote to a friend. No luck. 

So for today's post I will share that this is life. You do your best but sometimes the answer is not clear. Just keep going forward and one day the answer will be revealed!

That was fast. The amazing Stephen Swafford of Indah Bulan solved the mystery. The tree is a yellow oleander and I love this description, "Yellow oleander trees (Thevetia peruviana) sound as if they should be closely related to oleander, (genus Nerium) but they aren’t. Both are members of the Dogbane family, but they reside in different genera and are very different plants." Read more at Gardening Know How.

Locally Sourced Materials

 

We have been enjoying watching a big project run by the water company.

We were told they haul the dirt and rocks off
to the dump and we should help ourselves.

It was a nice day for scrubbing rocks.

We added them to some rocks I had collected
 with J's sister not quite seven years ago!
