Visible Mending

I had seen beautiful pictures of repaired ceramic pieces, like this

on Etsy.

The Embroiderers' Guild has a lovely introduction to visible mending with thread.

I was inspired to try it myself after seeing my sister's sweatshirt when we were together last month.

January Leftovers

I was at a vintage clothing store and
I am pretty sure this is the same jacket I
was wearing in my bicycle crash in 1993. 

A friend taught me how to take one
frame from a live picture on my phone.

I rewarded myself with a trip to the
Cal Poly farm store. Lots of temptations!

I love this address carving so I thought
I should take a picture of it, just in case.

Former Tradition

It was traditional for winners of a race stage to be kissed by
tour hostesses, more commonly known as podium girls.
This was also tradition for darts and Formula 1 car
racing, which let go of this tradition before cycling did.

I loved seeing the ceremonies after the eighth stage.
No kisses but matching masks and a variety of outfits for men and women.

Minor Holiday

Not only was today Mother's Day, but it was also National Clean Up Your Room Day. The two are not always on the same day, but I was happy to combine them. Thank goodness I had not seen this site until just now because I was not about to do all this.

The Bedroom Deep Clean, Step-by-Step:
1) Pick Up and Put Away All Clothes, Books, Belongings
2) Strip the Bed
3) Launder the Bedding
4) Flip the Mattress
5) Push Aside the Bed and Clean Under It
6) Vacuum Out the Closet
7) Dust all Surfaces and Wipe Down Light Switches, Fixtures and Ceiling Fan with a Microfiber Cloth
8) Clean Windows and Mirrors with a Glass or All Purpose Cleaner
9) Vacuum Drapes with Brush Attachment, Wash Curtains (if possible) or Clean Blinds
10) Clean the Floors/Vacuum the Carpet
11) Remake the Bed
12) Enjoy a Well Deserved Great Sleep in your very clean room!

Now we have to figure out what to do with the stuff that didn't go back in the closet. Normally I would donate it to a little store in town that supports local organizations but I have no idea when they will be accepting donations again.

Joy

It seems like everyone is clearing out their closets, but I don't feel the need to conform. Despite that, today I decided I am ready to let go of the ear warmer that I wear under my helmet. I bought at the Hind outlet on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder in 1992, or so.

This is too stretched out and no longer does the job.
I will take it to H&M, which recycles old clothes.
I will replace it with one I bought in Denmark about eight years ago.

These were bought at the same store and definitely still spark joy. I have an undamaged pair that I wear on nicer occasions, but these are good when I need two layers of mittens to cycle to the pool.

Looks like there are some two-mitten days in my future.

Maybe the last time?

We have been going to the Sycamore Faire since 2004, but the next time we are in town for it our youngest will be in ninth grade.  I guess we'll have to go on our own.

The family is generally good about emptying pockets before laundry is done, but not always.  A wonderful shirt ended up with pen stains, which I could not remove. I set the shirt aside for the next Faire since there is always a tie-dye booth.

I twisted and banded the shirt at home.

The one I did was okay.  
I thought it would look better if I focused on only two colors,
but I have some regret about choosing yellow and red

you can still see the stain.  Oh well.
