One Small Step

When we lived in Denmark I learned that people kept clogs by the door and slipped them on to take out the trash, walk the dog, or other things people do in flip flops around here.

I was so excited to find this pair of Sanita clogs for $3 at a local retirement community's sale. I used them for ages until one day the heel just broke in half. It would have cost $80-100 to repair them, which I could not bring myself to pay. I just glued the heel and wore them only sporadically.

This week I found this pair of Dansko clogs in a free pile! I let them sit in the sun for a while and threw away my old clogs. I slipped on the new ones and started to do some things in the yard. Perfect. Until they weren't and I realized that these shoes had the exact same problem. Sigh. I threw them away.

I have a relative who asks, "If you didn't own this thing, and saw it for sale say at a garage sale, how much would you pay for it? If the answer is "nothing, I wouldn't take it even if it was free" then you KNOW you should get rid of it." So many things I treasure I got for free at a yard sale, but I am going to try to let go. I threw away some really awful hangers. And some ceramic pieces that A. was ready to let go of.  Small steps!

The day I posted this a friend (who does not read the blog) sent a note to say she had left something by my door.
