So Proud of Myself

I love my early morning rides to the pool, but one morning something shifted, which made me swerve, but I did not fall. It was dark so I waited until after my swim to examine my bike. I figured out a bolt that had been holding the bike rack in place was missing.

I looked in the plastic bag of random things in my basket and found a twist tie like this one.

It broke on the way home, but part of it was still in place,

Good enough

I had a ride scheduled with a friend that morning so I found some better twist ties,

but the best was having D. fix it with a new bolt.

Handyman

When I have finished my chores I often do a crossword puzzle, catch up on reading the newspapers, or something else unproductive. D. is not that way. When the weekend rolls around instead of recuperating from a long week he will put fresh caulk around the kitchen sink and tubs, work on bicycles, or keep looking until he finds something else.

A long time ago we were given a set of camping chairs as wedding gifts. We used them for camping, concerts in the park, and trips to the beach.

Unfortunately one of the seats sustained significant damage.

D. was looking for some good canvas and
I suggested one of these bags, which was
part of a collection of bags he had sent
home after cleaning his office.

D. cut off the handles and two corners.

Task completed.
Now he'll have to find something else to do!

Blessing is a Curse? Red is Blue?

Each summer we would leave the suburbs of L.A. and head to a town in centrally isolated upstate N.Y.  I always complained there were too many strip malls in in LA, but then I would want something in NY and there wouldn't be anywhere to get it (this was obviously in olden times).  Which is a blessing?  Which is a curse?

So today I went to the hardware store, not even the large hardware store, to find Loctite.
They come in different strengths, D. says.  Buy the red one, D. says.

But it is like the test in which you name the color, not the word.
(Ed. note - this demonstrates the Stroop Effect, as described here.)

There were many red Loctites, but I bought the one that seemed to fill my need.
D. pointed out that even though it was red, it was labeled blue.  I am not going back.
