July Leftovers

It is hard to have a leftover post if I have barely posted anything, but here are a few pictures.

This reminded me of the LA Co. Fair.

Streaking

I have been using a meditation app every day for four years.
Sometimes it is a short time, sometimes longer, and sometimes
more than once a day. I don't pay a lot of attention to the
number of consecutive days, but I am glad I keep using it.

My Duolingo (language practice) streak is longer and
that one I feel more pressure to keep going. Maybe I'll stop
at 2000 or maybe just drop a language or two.

House Move Update

A little over a year ago we watched a house get moved down the street, as documented here

Despite needing significant updates internally, it looks like it fits in.

The lot it came from is still empty with only
the shell of a garage on the property.

Changes in the neighborhood

I had never taken a picture of local artist Barbara Beretich's house on Harvard so I am using images from Google maps.

I went by recently and saw a green-waste dumpster out front. The guys working there said it was owned by Claremont Graduate University and the house had a lot of potential.

What a difference!

Technology

I carefully wrote many blog posts ahead of time. I put a reminder on my calendar to post them every few days. I thought I was opening the draft and clicking publish. I was surprised and disappointed when I opened the blog and saw that they had all posted within a few days of each other. Sigh.

On the positive side of technology we tried a new cellular provider and it worked while we were on vacation. It was great to have access to maps, to share pictures, and to buy new plane tickets because our original air carrier was on strike (they already sent a refund!).

Trees on Campus

Pomona College offers this image of
Stover Walk as a background for video calls.

There was significant loss from January's wind storm.

Very large holes appeared,

followed by newly planted trees.

It will be a while before there is full shade again, but it was nice to see progress.

So Many Yard Signs

This lot has been empty for as long as I have been here.
A local retirement community owns it and would like to build
housing for those who have experienced homelessness (their words).

There are dueling signs and dueling websites. Pro-housing site here and anti-housing site here.

"Protect Our Students and Seniors"
This seems odd because it is the seniors who
own the land and are trying to build the facility.

Stay tuned.
