Clothes Make the Man...

You can tell what sport happened over the weekend by examining the laundry on Monday.

Can you guess the sport?  Bonus points if you can name the position, too.

This past weekend was cycling.

p.s.  Did you know there was more to the quote from Mark Twain?

...Naked people have little or no influence on society.

Being unimaginative

Yes, everyone talks about the weather, but it is something I love to follow, probably because there are so many statistics without having to cheer for a team.  My favorite site is weather underground, which has fabulous statistics, present and past.

At Foothill and Indian Hill Blvd. at 7:45 a.m.

When I was cycling to the pool at 5:20 a.m. the local thermometer read 25ºF (-4ºC).  I thought of the Danes who maintain there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.  Even though I had put on a second layer of mittens, I had not put on anything more than a thin pair of pants - bad clothing choice.  I suppose standing on the deck in a swimsuit is also a bad clothing choice, but I didn't think about that since I was getting into a heated pool.  Maybe I can find an unheated pool so I can build up my Viking blood.

Optimism

Why do I imagine my future self will have more time than my present self?  Here are a few things my past self started and imagined my future self would finish (does not include jigsaw puzzle started with by mom this week that WILL get finished).

I was hoping to have this done by December first to mail off to Hurricane Sandy people with all the other scarves collected by a yarn store.  This is usually worked on at meetings and I have several next week so maybe it will be done by the beginning of February.

Before we had kids we went to the Bar Mitzvah of the rabbi's son.  The mom had a cloth signed at the boy's naming and and then embroidered it and used it as part of the Bar Mitzvah.  I did the same thing and am making progress with a deadline three and one-half years away.

I worry about this one.  I bought the wool in Scotland in 1991.  I started knitting with it in 1995.  I have the front, back, and more than half the sleeves done.  Would I even wear it if I finished it?

University Women used to have a group that got together monthly to work on unfinished projects.  Anyone want to start a new group?

New specs

When I went to choose new glasses I was overwhelmed by the options only to be told that I could go to a larger facility with a larger selection.  No thanks.

I was grateful to the optician who gave me her honest opinion and helped me choose this frame.  I think they look fine and with the progressive lenses I can read things without taking off my glasses.  Every now and then it looks like something has waves or has become liquid, but I am hoping as I adjust that will disappear.

Our house

Our house is okay, but what I really love is the location, partially because of the entertainment that comes to us.  Sometimes a Cal Poly Pomona landscaping class stops by, the marching band might warm up in front of our house before the homecoming parade, and here are a couple pictures from the Fourth of July.

On Thanksgiving the road is closed and runner and walkers pass by.

This week we had a new set of people dropping by.

Revenge

I guess if I hadn't talked on the phone so much as a teenager my parents wouldn't be tying up the computers now.

Of course I would give up my laptap just to have my parents' company any time!

Gifts

I received my final two gifts of the gift-giving season.  David took the car to be washed and vacuumed, something he does twice a year.  I love it!  When I got into the passenger seat the window was so clean it looked like the window was down (I almost wrote that it was rolled down, but wasn't sure all of you would know/remember what that meant).

Almost thirty years ago I was given the bicycle I ride almost everyday.  Unbelievably (or not) parts of it are wearing out.

The leather toe strap on the toe clip broke (see sample above)!  I was able to find the pieces, but that didn't do much good.  David did not buy the $70 replacements (for a pair, not a single toe strap), but the $7 nylon ones have been working just fine.  Thank you, David!
