Sycamore doesn't sell wrapping paper or have golf tournaments, but still needs to raise funds. The Talent Show and Pasta Dinner raises money for the sixth graders to attend Outdoor Science School, which is a week in the mountains learning across the curriculum.
This was the first time that we have not participated (unless you count selling tickets, cooking pasta, baking cookies, and attending the event). In the past my kids have sung, played cello, and recited poems (
Jabberwocky and
The New Colossus)
People pay for tickets and the price includes spaghetti and salad, but drinks and dessert cost a dollar each. I heard that last year the dessert table alone brought in enough money to cover one and one-half students' fees.

The talent varied, but it was all entertaining. A kindergartener in a fairy costume shared her talent of running while counting. An older girl pogo-sticked to music, including jumping rope while pogoing no handed. There were many singers, gymnasts, musical instruments, and a couple skits.
I loved the view of this girl's hair.
The multi-purpose room (library, auditorium, art room) was filled with a supportive audience that concluded the event by remembering the school's late music teacher,
